MedReason Individual Method Paper Track

All registered MedReason teams may submit an individual paper based on the method used in their final challenge submission. Accepted papers will be included in the Springer LNCS proceedings.

Key information

  • Eligibility: all registered MedReason teams may submit; the opportunity is not limited to the Top 3.
  • Publication: accepted papers will be included in the archival MICCAI 2026 Springer LNCS proceedings.
  • Submission limit: one paper per team and no more than three authors. Each team determines its author list and author order, subject to standard authorship requirements.
  • Scope: the manuscript should primarily describe the method used in the team’s final challenge submission, together with the team’s own experiments and results. These may include training, validation, and ablation experiments; results on public or officially permitted datasets; and reproducible analyses conducted by the team.
  • Format: use the MICCAI workshop Springer LNCS template, with up to 8 pages of main text and 2 additional pages of references. Papers may be shorter than 8 pages.
  • Review: blind review. The initial manuscript must be fully anonymized.
  • Participation: optional and does not affect challenge evaluation, final ranking, or award eligibility.

Submission and publication requirements

Eligibility, authorship, and scope

  • All registered MedReason teams are eligible, regardless of final ranking.
  • Each team may submit one paper with up to three authors.
  • The team determines the author list and author order in accordance with standard authorship requirements.
  • The paper should focus on the method used in the team’s final challenge submission, together with the team’s own experiments and results. These may include training, validation, and ablation experiments; results on public or officially permitted datasets; and reproducible analyses conducted by the team.

Format and blind review

  • Use the MICCAI workshop Springer LNCS template.
  • Up to 8 pages of main text and up to 2 additional pages of references.
  • There is no separate short-paper track; manuscripts may be shorter than 8 pages.
  • Remove author names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgements, and other directly identifying information from the review manuscript.
  • The review will assess relevance to MedReason, methodological clarity and completeness, presentation of experiments and results, and basic academic and writing quality.

OpenReview submission and account requirements

Submission starts: August 8, 2026, 1:00:00 AM Singapore Time.

Submission deadline: August 18, 2026, 12:00:00 AM Singapore Time.

All authors should create and complete their OpenReview profiles as early as possible.

The original article submission, reviews, and author response will be made publicly available. The camera-ready paper should remain hidden on OpenReview.

Review and decision timeline

Each submission will be reviewed by two or three reviewers. Review comments and the final decision will be released together on August 21. There is no rebuttal or revision before the decision stage. Authors of accepted papers must submit the camera-ready version by August 24.

Relationship with the joint journal paper

Submitting an individual workshop paper will not affect a team’s opportunity to contribute to the planned joint MedReason Challenge journal paper. The joint-paper opportunity is not limited to the Top 3 teams.

Individual workshop paper Your team’s method

Focus on your own method, experiments, final challenge results, and team-specific analysis.

Joint journal paper The challenge as a whole

Focus on challenge design, aggregate evaluation, cross-team comparisons, and broader findings.

The two manuscripts should remain clearly differentiated in scope and contribution.

Presentation arrangements

  • The final Top 3 teams, as well as selected teams with particularly strong or innovative methods, may be invited to give oral presentations.
  • Other accepted papers may be presented as posters.
  • In-person attendance, MICCAI registration, and on-site presentation are not mandatory conditions for paper acceptance.

After acceptance

Accepted authors will be asked to provide:

  • the final compiled paper PDF;
  • complete LaTeX or Word source files;
  • a supplementary PDF, if applicable;
  • a License to Publish signed by the corresponding author; and
  • compliance with Springer Nature policies on conduct, figures and illustrations, ethical approval, and informed consent.
Public release

An open-access version of all accepted papers from the MICCAI 2026 Satellite Event MedReason Challenge will be made available on the MICCAI Society website no earlier than one week before the first day of the conference.
